Greater Bay Area Impact Forum Foundation Limited
Announces Partnership with Policy 21 Research to Develop United Nations Sustainable Development Goal Indices for Greater Bay Area Cities Hong Kong 25th September 2019 The Greater Bay Area Impact Forum Foundation Limited has announced its collaboration with leading Hong Kong research organization POLICY 21 to develop a set of sustainability indices based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDG) for the Greater Bay Area (GBA) and its member cities, including the Hong Kong SAR. The results of this research will be published annually to help city governments formulate policy and track their progress against world-recognized indices that are crucial to sustainable development. The collaboration will provide thought leadership as well as independent and reliable data to help city governments in the GBA evaluate various policy options for quality of life improvement in their communities. The 17 UN SDG indices include measurements such as: elimination of poverty, adequacy of affordable housing, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, equitable quality education, gender equality and other key indices. The Greater Bay Area Impact Forum Foundation Limited is sponsoring this research on an on-going basis. Co-founder of the Foundation, Dr. C.K. Wong, said: “We are delighted to be collaborating with POLICY 21 on this research and to address sustainable development issues in the GBA. The UN SDG index is a world- recognized set of measurements that we should benchmark our communities against to ensure that we are not driving unbalanced economic growth at the expense of our future generations. We believe the study will form the basis for sound judgments and decisions in formulating public policies that are conducive to the sustainable development of the GBA. Recent events in Hong Kong have accelerated the need to provide a set of common goals that Government and different community stakeholders, including our youth, can work toward in building a 21st century Hong Kong.” Dr. Ma Jun, who chairs China's Green Finance Committee, co-chairs the G20 Sustainable Finance Study Group, and chairs the Hong Kong Green Finance Association, welcomed the initiative. Dr. Ma said: "Green finance will play a critical role in advancing the global sustainability agenda and be the next major investment opportunity. Having a thorough understanding of the GBA 9 + 2 cities through the sustainability indices based on UN practices will enable identification of major sustainable growth and development areas." Mr. Hak Kwong Yip, the Chairman and founding director of POLICY 21 said: “We are excited to be collaborating with, and sponsored by, the Greater Bay Area Impact Forum Foundation Limited to perform this research and collaborate with leading overseas universities and various data contributing government agencies to develop this set of indices for the GBA cities, including the Hong Kong SAR. The indices will underscore the strengths and attributes that differentiate Hong Kong and other GBA cities from other great cities of the world, bearing witnesses to how the GBA becomes a world-class sustainable city cluster rivaling the leading bay areas in San Francisco, New York and Tokyo.” ### About the Greater Bay Area Impact Forum Foundation Limited The Greater Bay Area Impact Forum Foundation Limited is a NGO registered in Hong Kong.
